Where the Locals Go

One of the best restaurants in the area is the Tin Top Restaurant and Oyster Bar on Co. Rd. 10 in Bon Secour, AL. The chefs are amazing and the food is divine!! It is a little out of the way, about 15 min from the beach, but it is worth the trip with an excellent combination of steaks and seafood. Coming from the Gulf Shores beach, go north on Hwy 59, and turn left on County Road 10 towards the famous Bon Secour and Billy’s Seafood, where you can purchase fresh caught seafood almost right off the boat. In fact, you can see the boats bringing it in. Very cool and definitely a local favorite. Another thing to do in Bon Secour is stop by the Coastal Living Idea Cottage at Bon Secour Village, which will open for tours on Jun 30, 2007.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Tin Top Restaurant last Saturday night. Because of the Memorial Day traffic and congestion on the island, we decided to drive a few miles northwest to what turned out to be one of the best meals I have had in quite some time.

We started things off with the lobster-crab bisque, which was great, despite the warm weather. Shannon ordered the Filet topped with a crab cake and a lobster cream sauce. The steak could not have been cooked any better, and the crab cake and sauce was a nice compliment to dish. I ordered the Pecan-encrusted Grouper, topped with a crawfish cream sauce. One thought comes to mind: mouth-watering! Everything was great, the meal, the service and the ambiance. The Tin Top Restaurant and Oyster Bar is truly a Gulf Coast hidden gem.
