On May 16, Kaiser Realty, Inc. opened for business at its new location at 1557 Gulf Shores Parkway in Gulf Shores, a move that honors the traditions of the company’s beginnings while affirming its commitment to the future. The new 26,000 sq ft combination of office space and meeting facilities is built on the site of the original Kaiser Realty location. In 1980, Baldwin County native Leonard A. Kaiser founded Kaiser Realty, Inc. to help turn Alabama’s thirty-two mile long coastline into a vacation destination and home to people yearning for the coastal lifestyle. “The original building was an old 1,100 sq. ft. residential brick house that I shared with a contractor to help cover the rent,” said Kaiser, who remains president and CEO of the company.
“Back in 1980, much of the United States population was unaware that Alabama had a beach, much less one of the whitest beaches in the country,” Kaiser said. Now, however, thanks to Kaiser and fellow visionaries in the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area, the small resort community has grown from a relatively unknown seasonal vacation spot to a thriving year-round vacation destination.
Kaiser Realty’s commitment to the future is reflected in this opening of its new Gulf Shores facility. With detailed attention to the needs and wants of its guests and owners, the new Kaiser Realty office includes much-needed meeting space, new technology, increased amenities for guests and owners, and educational opportunities.
Most significantly, Kaiser said, the new building demonstrates the company’s commitment to the area and to the future of this premier destination. “We are confident about the future of the Alabama Gulf Coast as a premier destination and are continuing to demonstrate our optimism, not only with the opening of our new offices, but also with a proven commitment to the people of Kaiser Realty and to the community,” he said.
Kaiser Realty’s phenomenal growth from humble beginnings is a direct result of the company’s commitment to providing the absolute best service to owners, guests, and real estate customers. Kaiser Realty has grown in a controlled, targeted direction with the focus on quality rather than quantity. Vice-President Randy Kaiser, who has been with the company for more than 26 years, said, “We are continuing to move in the direction of providing the best beach house and condo rentals in the area. We are not focused on being the biggest – just the best.”
The company’s success is also due in great part to its dedicated employees, according to Leonard Kaiser. “The thing I do best is surround myself with talented people. As proud as we are about the new building, we recognize it is still just a building. It is the people that work here that make up Kaiser Realty and are responsible for its success,” he said.
Since 1980, Kaiser Realty has expanded into a successful, multifaceted operation specializing in vacation rentals, real estate sales, property management and association management services. Kaiser Realty was chosen as the association management company for Summer House on Romar Beach Condominiums in 1985, one of the area’s first upscale condominium developments projects, a property it continues to service today. Other condominium complexes managed by the company include Admirals Quarters, Colonnades, Enclave, Palms, Palm Harbor, Tidewater and Crystal Shores.
Kaiser Realty was the first rental management company to offer virtual tours of rental properties on the Internet, one of the first in the area to offer online reservations, and still has the only drive-thru check-in service on the Gulf Coast.
Today the company employs approximately 70 full-time employees and independent real estate agents. It also provides seasonal employment for an additional 250 people. Kaiser Realty is the oldest family-owned vacation rental management and real estate sales company operating under the leadership of its original founder and owner on the Alabama Gulf Coast. The company celebrated its 27th anniversary in 2007 and was awarded 2006 Business of the Year by the Alabama Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce.
The company continues to be recognized for its leadership and dedication to supporting area schools, churches and charitable organizations. The company has also given substantial support to national humanitarian organizations, including the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and the United Way. In 2001, Leonard Kaiser received the first Distinguished Service Award by the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Chamber of Commerce.
Kaiser Realty is increasing the reach of its marketing efforts as it has identified emerging feeder markets, proving that people throughout the country are discovering that the Alabama Gulf Coast is one of the greatest beach destinations in the country. “We are consciously working to increase short term and long term property values along the Gulf Coast,” says Glen Kaiser, Vice President of the company’s Orange Beach offices.
Looking to the future is part of the way Kaiser Realty does business, and will continue to be the motivating force behind its business and its commitment to the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach community, according to Leonard Kaiser. “We opened right after Hurricane Frederic devastated the area. We were here during the periods of unbelievable growth. We’re still here and we will continue to be here for the long haul,” he said. “I love this area, and I want to make sure others learn about this area and love it the way I do.”

Leonard,
I’ve written to you several times to congratulate you on your new building and on your success with Kaiser Realty. I don’t think any of my messages got to you. I used to call your Dad, Uncle John, and your Mom, Aunt Bernice, because I thought I was related to all of you. If you were Evelyn Larson’s cousins, then I thought you and Johnny, and Roger were supposed to be my cousins, too. I was devastated when at about age 7 or 8, I found out I wasn’t a part of the Kaiser/Larson clan.
I’ve followed your progress through the years and I actually attended Aunt Esther’s 100th birthday party which, I think, also celebrated your birthday. My Mother, Bea, and my sister, Brenda Hart, were there with me. I hope you can remember me a little. I’m very concerned about Roger since Nancy Rotta told me he is quite ill. I don’t want to call them to check on them but I would so love to know if he is any better.
I live in Longwood, FL, which is a part of Orlando, and wish I could come over to see Roger and Janie, but I’m not a spring chicken any more and back surgery prevents me from driving for any distance. Would you please give my best wishes to Roger, and also, John and families, whenever you have a chance. Thank you.
Again, your new building is just beautiful and I congratulate you on your amazing career and success. Uncle John would be so proud of you!!!!
Cordially,
Joyce Hawkins Mills (daughter of Bea (Hawkins) Clawson)
