A popular late-summer powerboat racing event is cancelled for 2009, according to event organizers.  According to information released by the GCPA, the annual event brings in close to $1.8 million in lodging revenue along the Alabama Gulf Coast.  That factors out to 12,312 additional room nights.

Last year’s races were held in August thanks to a partnership between the Gulf Coast Powerboat Association and the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission, a department of the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau.

As for Thunder on the Gulf 2010, race fans are encouraged to check updates on ThunderontheGulf.com

Despite the cancellation of this terrific event, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, AL, have many events ongoing this summer.   A wide variety of lodging options are available, including hundreds of Gulf-front condos and beach homes from which to choose. Call Kaiser Realty at 877-405-5587 to check availability and book your stay.
