A popular late-summer powerboat racing event is cancelled for 2009, according to event organizers. According to information released by the GCPA, the annual event brings in close to $1.8 million in lodging revenue along the Alabama Gulf Coast. That factors out to 12,312 additional room nights.
Last year’s races were held in August thanks to a partnership between the Gulf Coast Powerboat Association and the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission, a department of the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau.
