The Hangout Hosts Musicians for 27th Annual Songwriters Festival

Fall is one of the most exciting times in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, and not just because of the great weather! With festivities galore and one of a kind events continuously going on throughout the “off season,” it only seems fitting that the good people at The Hangout in Gulf Shores would have their fair share of excitement going on as well!

The fun all started on Thursday, November 10th with the Official Kickoff of the 27th Annual Frank brown International Songwriters Festival. Featuring Grammy nominated songwriters, local icons and national musicians alike, The Hangout will be hosting some of these great musicians beginning at 7:30 p.m. on November 10th, 11th, 12th and the 17th.  Be sure to stop by and listen to the amazing works of some of the nation’s top songwriters, right here in Gulf Shores!

BP showcases Gulf seafood and Olympic sponsorship at annual half-marathon in Coastal Alabama

GULF SHORES AND ORANGE BEACH, AL – Shed those extra pounds from Thanksgiving dinner by participating in the Kaiser Coastal Half-Marathon, 5k and 1 mile run on Saturday, November 26.

The half-marathon, organized by the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission and Team-Magic, attracts hundreds of avid competitors from across the Southeast and Midwest each year.

U.S. Olympic Bronze Medalist Deena Kastor and U.S. Olympic Bronze Medalist Johnny Gray will headline the fourth annual event. BP is a proud supporter of Team USA and serves as a corporate sponsor of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

“As a sponsor of the London 2012 Olympic Games, we have been presented with an opportunity to bring world-class athletes to Coastal Alabama to share their amazing stories,” said Ayana McIntosh-Lee, BP General Manager of External Relations. “These athletes serve as an important reminder to the community about the incredible things individuals can achieve when they strive for greatness.”

USS ALABAMA Memorial Park logo, MobileWith less than one month left to train for the Kaiser Coastal Half- Marathon & 5K, The good people at The USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile are hosting the perfect chance to fine tune your race skills.

On Saturday, November 12, at 8:00 A.M., they will be hosting a 5K run to raise funds to help keep up regular maintenance of the Battleship and the surrounding park.  The course will take runners from Battleship Park, east down the Causeway, and loop back for a finish at the end of Battleship Park.

The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo hosts the 2011 Boo at the Zoo on Oct. 27th, from 4-6 p.m.There is something extra exciting about celebrating a holiday on the beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, and Halloween is no different!

On Thursday, October 27th, The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo will be hosting “Boo At The Zoo,” a fun, family focused event geared towards your “Little Ghosts and Goblins,” from infants to 10 year-olds.

The fun kicks off at 4 p.m. at the Zoo in Gulf Shores, and all are invited to join in the festivities.  There will be a costume contest (at 5 p.m.) and fun and entertainment until the events closing at 6 p.m.

The cost for this event is $1 for adults and $2 for children.

Thunder on the Gulf: A Success from the Start

Thunder on the Gulf, Orange Beach, AlabamaWith only a few days left until the kick off of to this year’s Thunder on the Gulf powerboat races, the excitement has already started to build up around the area.

What started as the brainchild of Live Bait owner, Gary Nichols, the inaugural Thunder on the Gulf powerboat race was held in late August of 2003, only months after he and some friends had founded the Gulf Coast Powerboat Association.

With a turnout described as, “The second largest gathering of people in the state,” according to then Governor Fob James, the board of the GCPA was quickly contacted to have a World Championship race, in November of 2003.

The extremely strong beginnings of Thunder on the Gulf are perhaps the reason for its longevity and its cultural significance to the area. The 32 miles of sandy coastline located within (more…)
